Kate Middleton felt quite nervous during her first meeting with Prince Charles. But this shouldn’t come as a surprise since meeting future in-laws is usually nerve-wracking.
During the Duchess of Cambridge’s first joint interview with Prince William after their engagement, Kate revealed that her feelings of nervousness quickly faded away after she started talking to the heir to the throne. After all, Prince Charles proved to be a very charming man.
“I was quite nervous about meeting William’s father, but he was very welcoming and very friendly,” Kate said. “It couldn’t have gone easier for me really,” she added.
The mom of three encountered Prince Charles a number of times before she got engaged to Prince William. The Duchess of Cambridge would usually visit Queen Elizabeth’s estate in Scotland, and Prince Charles also frequented the place.
During one of the two royals’ bonding sessions, the Prince of Wales taught Kate how to deer stalk. Even though Prince Charles and Kate had a wonderful time together, they were both criticized by animal rights charities.
Meanwhile, Kate isn’t the only one who got lucky with her father-in-law. Prince William has also forged a wonderful relationship with his wife’s parents. In their engagement interview, the Duke of Cambridge gushed over Kate’s close bond with Michael and Carole Middleton.
“Kate’s got a very close family, and I get on really well with them and I’ve been lucky they’ve been so supportive,” Prince William said. “Mike and Carole [Kate’s parents] have been loving, caring and really fun, really welcoming towards me. So I’ve felt really part of the family and I hope Kate feels the same with my family,” he added.
In the documentary “Brothers In Arms,” royal correspondent Ashley Pearson said that Prince William saw Kate’s mom as a mother figure to him, especially since Princess Diana is no longer around.
“He would lie on the couch with his head in the lap of Mrs. Middleton,” Pearson said. “Or he would sit after dinner and talk for hours with Mr. Middleton. Talking to a royal insider several years ago, she told me one of the reasons William fell in love with Kate Middleton from the very beginning was because of her family and her close relationship with her siblings and parents,” she added.
