An Indian man allegedly killed his wife for wanting cancer treatment in the U.S. in Makarba, Ahmedabad, India on Thursday, Jan. 12.

The accused, identified as 72-year-old Kiran Bhow, allegedly killed his 69-year-old wife, Usha Bhow, by stabbing her several times on Thursday, Jan. 12 morning, because he opposed her wish to return to the US for treatment of her cervical cancer. The stabbing reportedly happened at their apartment in Makarba, Ahmedabad, India, the Times Of India reported.

After stabbing his wife, Kiran then allegedly stabbed himself to commit suicide. Usha reportedly suffered severe wounds on her face, chest, stomach, and her wrists. Meanwhile, Kiran suffered wounds on his wrists, neck, and stomach.

Following the incident, the Sarkhej police registered an FIR (First Information Report) for murder based on a complaint filed by Usha's brother, Madhusudan Soni. According to Usha's brother Soni, Kiran and Usha had returned to India after living in Fremont, California, for about 30 years. They were living in a house in Prahladnagar and about four months ago, they moved to the Orchid Exotica apartment complex in Makarba, Times Now reported.

"After Usha returned from the US, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer and was being treated at a hospital in Shahibaug. Usha was insisting on returning to the US to get treated. Kiran was against this and used to fight with her over the issue," Soni stated.

According to Soni, Usha often told him that Kiran had fought with her over the matter of returning to the US. On Wednesday, Jan. 11, Kiran called Soni. However, since his phone was busy, he called his wife and told her that Usha had not been keeping well since Monday. Kiran told Soni's wife that Usha had a fever and cough and was confined to the bed.

On Thursday morning, Kiran's nephew, Krunal, received a message from Kiran simply saying "suicide". Krunal then called relatives and told them that Kiran and Usha had attempted suicide.

The relatives rushed to the private hospital where Kiran and Usha were taken. When they arrived at the hospital, they learned that Usha was pronounced dead and that Kiran was in critical condition. Officers believe that Kiran first killed Usha and then stabbed himself dead.

It is reported that Kiran is undergoing treatment in critical condition and is on ventilator support.
