An all-new patent application submitted by Apple recently leaked in forums. According to the image, Apple has been working on a multi-functional Home Button for the iPhone 7 that can be transformed into a joystick.
As the diagram shows, the home button now features a two-stage application. Tapping the home button will bring the iPhone to the standard home screen. When the home button is pressed all the way down, a catch will release to spring a joystick into place. While it is too early to say, the joystick does look somewhat flimsy and could be a source of frustration for future iPhone 7 users should it break too easily.
While details on the next iPhone 7 are limited, an all-new joystick design suggests that the next iPhone is designed with gamers in mind. Other uses may include enhanced navigation features for various apps and internet browsing. Now it's your turn: Will you find this new design useful? On the other hand, does a new joystick overcomplicate the iPhone's intuitive functions? Let us know your thoughts on the latest multi-function joystick patent from Apple in the comment section below.
