Marjorie Taylor Greene Warns GOP Is On Track To 'Lose The Midterms' If Trump Doesn't Fulfill Promises To MAGA

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said the party will be at risk of losing the midterm elections next year if President Donald Trump doesn't "stick with the agenda and ignore the people here in Washington that are trying to" get him to do "something different."

Speaking to former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, Greene said "it's the Republicans that are the problem" and that "the way to win the midterms is by the House and the Senate delivering the campaign promises because Trump's not on that, he's not on the ballot in 2026."

"I'm telling you. If you ignore the parents that are furious over COVID vaccines being on their childhood vaccine schedule, you're gonna lose the midterms," the lawmaker added. "If you ignore the campaign promises of no tax on tips, overtime, and Social Security, you're going to lose the midterms."

Recent polls have shown that some voters have soured on Trump, but not as a result of the reasons mentioned by the lawmaker. A recent Quinnipiac University national poll of registered voters from April showed that Trump's tariffs have become a liability for him. A vast majority of them (72%) said they think Trump's tariffs will hurt the U.S. economy in the short term.

Almost every Democrat surveyed (97%), 77% of independents and 44% of Republicans agreed with the premise. A smaller majority (53%) said that they think the tariffs will hurt the U.S. economy in the long-term too.

Tariffs aren't the only policy that's making voters raise their eyebrows. In fact, another poll released earlier this week by Morning Consult showed that, for the first time since April 2021, voters trust Democrats in Congress more than their Republican counterparts to handle the economy (46% to 43%). That survey was conducted among 2,203 registered U.S. voters across the country between April 11-13.

Elsewhere, a survey conducted by the nonpartisan Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) showed that a majority of Americans view President Donald Trump as a "dangerous dictator whose power should be limited before he destroys American democracy."

The survey found that 52% of Americans agree with the statement, while 44% instead see Trump as "a strong leader who should be given the power he needs to restore America's greatness."

The findings illustrate the extent of the discomfort with Trump's leadership style and policy decisions, even among some who supported him in the past. Among Americans who voted for Trump and now regret their decision, 55% describe him as a dangerous dictator, compared to 42% who continue to see him as a strong leader. Similarly, 68% of non-voters who regret not participating in the last election also label Trump as a dangerous dictator.
