As Telemundo 62 reporter, Iris Delgado, was wrapping up her report on the suggested soda tax outside the Philadelphia City Hall, a woman approached her trying to get her attention. Seconds after the woman’s unsuccessful attempt to interrupt Delgado, she attacked her hitting her behind the neck, punching her in the face, and pulling her to the ground.

The broadcast quickly closed the shot on Delgado and focused on news anchor Ramón Zayas who exclaimed, “Oh my God. We hope she is OK. Unfortunately a person has just struck one of our reporters. We will keep you posted on the situation.”

Reportedly, Delgado’s crew separated the two and followed the woman who was identified as Waheeda Wilson. She is 37 and has a criminal record of assault.

Wilson was arrested and taken into custody on Friday, and was charged with simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

A Telemundo 62 spokesman released a statement about the incident, which read: “Iris Delgado was the victim of an unprovoked attack by an individual while reporting live for Telemundo62’s 11 PM local newscast. Thankfully, she is ok and is understandably taking some time off to recover. We look forward to her return.”

Vice president of NBC 10 and Telemundo 62, Anzio Wiliams, confirmed that the suspect had been caught and informed that all the crew members working with Delgado at the time of the incident are doing fine. Williams also said the company is working on improving corporate security for their team.

In addition, Ric Harris, president of NBC 10 and Telemundo 62 informed that Delgado is doing well. “I’m very happy to inform that she is in good spirits and that her physical wounds are minimal. She wants to thank everyone for your support and good wishes,” he shared.

A press conference will be held on June 13 so Delgado and her crew can answer questions.
