In recent weeks, the Internal Revenue Service has admitted to targeting conservative, 'Tea Party' and 'patriot' groups for increased scrutiny upon applying for 501 c)3 tax exempt status. Thursday, it was reported that new Treasury Secretary Jacob "Jack" Lew had asked for the resignation of acting IRS Commissioner Steven Miller, who consented.

Americans from both sides of the aisle and legislators across the political spectrum are outraged at the attack on free speech and personal liberty. However, one athlete took matters into his own hands upon a visit to the District of Columbia.

Evan Mathis, a guard for the NFL Philadelphia Eagles, paused a moment to take a picture along Constitution Avenue in downtown Washington. He was not, however, photographing the Smithsonian Castle across the Mall, nor the dome of the Jefferson Memorial that would be just visible across Independence Avenue.

Mathis took a picture of himself, his back turned to the camera, urinating on one of the traditional brown signs that mark Federal buildings. In this case, Mathis was seen peeing on the base of the IRS sign. He later posted the photograph to Instagram, with the comment "Audit This."

In the picture, Evan Mathis personified many Americans' longtime disdain for the nation's tax collector, amplified by the IRS targeting scandal. However, because of the audacity of the act, many observers, including CBS Sports speculated that in light of Mathis' relieving himself in that manner, the "chances of Mathis actually receiving an audit now from the IRS [are likely] sky-high."
