An Israeli man died after apparently feeling unwell at a New Year’s party in Mexico.

The deceased man, identified as 23-year-old Dylan Grimberg, from the coastal city of Ashdod in Israel, had arrived in the North American nation on Thursday, Dec. 29. Grimberg attended a New Year party in the coastal town of Tulum. While attending the party, Grimberg became unwell and was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment, the Times Of Israel reported.

However, despite the efforts, Grimberg succumbed to his health complications and later died at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Grimberg's stepmother Yehudit said that they had not been given further details about the circumstances surrounding the young man’s death.

“They haven’t told us anything. They won’t give us details and say we have to physically go to the hospital. We are in contact with the Foreign Ministry and local consul,” she said.

The cause of Grimberg's sudden death is still unknown.

“He was a beloved child, everyone loved him,” Yehudit said. “He flew out there on Thursday and told his father, ‘Dad, I love you, don’t worry, I’ll take care of myself.'”

Following Grimberg's death, the Foreign Ministry was in contact with the family and was involved in arrangements to bring Grimberg’s body back to Israel.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the Israeli embassy in Mexico was working with local officials to learn the details of what happened.

“From what we know, he did not feel well during a party and was taken to the hospital, where he died. We still don’t have details about the cause of death,” it said in a statement.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a 67-year-old man allegedly attacked and stabbed his son's friend while they were having a drinking party on Dec. 31, 2021, as previously reported.

The suspect, identified as Toshiaki Suzuki, 67, had reportedly been drinking and celebrating the New Year with his son, his son’s pal, who is in his 40s, and another man at his apartment in Tsurumi Ward, Japan. During the party, however, Suzuki got into a disagreement with his son’s friend, with the duo's tiff quickly escalating into an altercation. When Suzuki's son left the room for a short time during the party, the suspect, in a fit of rage, reportedly pulled out a knife and began stabbing the victim in the stomach.

Following the stabbing, the victim was rushed to a hospital for treatment in critical condition. When officers questioned Suzuki, he told the officers that he assaulted the man out of anger and that he did not intend to kill him.
