The new CoverGirl spokesperson, meet CoverBoy James Charles! COVERGIRL

If you thought that the beauty world was strictly for women, you are so wrong. With many men making strides in the beauty industry, COVERGIRL has taken notice and made a huge historic move.

One of the top-selling drugstore brands has just made history, announcing its first male spokesperson, aspiring makeup artist and Instagram phenomenon James Charles.

According to PEOPLE, the makeup company is excited to be breaking barriers within the industry and is excited to have Charles as part of the CoverGirl family.

"All of our COVERGIRLs are role models and boundary-breakers, fearlessly expressing themselves, standing up for what they believe, and redefining what it means to be beautiful. James Charles is no exception," the brand said in a statement. "One year ago, he boldly chose to launch his Instagram to the world, using transformative, dynamic makeup looks to showcase the many facets of his personality, serving as an inspiration to women, men, guys and girls who might have been afraid to do the same."

On Tuesday, CoverGirl ambassador singer Katy Perry took to Instagram to break the news that the beauty giant has signed the 17-year-old New York based makeup artist.

“Just wrapped another great CoverGirl shoot,” the singer wrote. Honored to have the pleasure to announce the very first CoverBoy, James Charles!”

The singer posted the photo of both herself and Charles all glammed up with perfectly contoured faces.

Charles has become a rising star with using Instagram as a platform. Quickly rising to over 400,00 followers, its easy to see that he has an unique approach to the makeup artistry. He began showcasing his work on Instagram a year ago and went viral last month following a gorgeous yearbook shoot.

The makeup phenomenon will continue the partnership through the year and star in CoverGirl’s new mascara campaign, “So Lashy,” by blastPRO Mascara which is set to go live later the month.

"I am so honored and excited to be working with such an iconic brand," he wrote on Instagram. "I started my Instagram one year ago to inspire others and as an artistic outlet to challenge myself creatively. I truly hope that this shows that anyone and everyone can wear makeup and can do anything if you work hard."

Charles is in great company joining Sofia Vergara, Becky G and the legendary Queen Latifah who are also brand spokesmodels.
