Democratic Sen. John Fetterman congratulated President Donald Trump on the Gaza deal, claiming that "now, enduring peace in the region is possible."

"Our parties are different but we have a shared ironclad commitment to Israel and its people," Fetterman said in a social media publication.

Trump announced the deal on Thursday, noting that the first phase of the deal has been signed by all parties. "This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace," he claimed.

"All Parties will be treated fairly! This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen," he added.

The Israeli cabinet is expected to sign on Thursday, with hostages set to be released during the weekend or on Monday. Then, the deal will be signed in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Far-right minister Bezalel Smotrich, who has long opposed any agreement and supports settling Gaza and expelling its inhabitants, said he will vote against it.

In a long statement he said he has "mixed emotions" about it. "Immense joy for the return of all our abducted brothers," but reservations about the liberation of 2,000 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons. "Great fear of the consequences of emptying prisons and releasing the next generation of terror leadership, which will do everything to continue spilling rivers of Jewish blood."

"For this reason alone, we cannot join the short-sighted celebrations and vote in favor of the deal," Smotrich added. He went on to call the country to "strive with all its might for the true eradication of Hamas and the genuine disarmament of Gaza, so that it no longer poses a threat to Israel." Fellow far-right minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is also expected to oppose the deal.

Netanyahu anticipated the deal will be approved, calling the agreement a "diplomatic success and a national and moral victory for the State of Israel." "Through steadfast resolve, powerful military action, and the great efforts of our great friend and ally President Trump, we have reached this critical turning point," Netanyahu added.
