As the defamation lawsuit of Johnny Depp against ex-wife Amber Heard continues to play out publicly, text messages revealed inside the courtroom on Wednesday, April 13, show Depp wishing to a friend that Heard was, among other things, a “rotting corpse.”

Depp’s correspondence with his friend and witness Isaac Baruch was revealed during a cross-examination by Heard’s lawyer, where Depp reportedly texted Baruch that he hoped Heard’s “rotting corpse was decomposing in the f***ing trunk of a Honda Civic,” according to the Daily Beast.

Among the other texts exchanged by Baruch and Depp were ones where he characterized Heard using a casual insult referring to the female genitals: “That c*** ruined such a f***ing cool life we had for a while.” Baruch admitted that these were real written correspondence between the two, Entertainment Weekly reported.

This would not be the first time text messages have revealed Depp’s opinions and anger against Heard: in the 2020 libel lawsuit regarding being called a “wife-beater” that Depp lost against British tabloid The Sun, he texted actor Paul Bettany disturbing messages regarding Heard.

“I will f*** her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she's dead,” he said, after describing to Bettany about burning and drowning Heard.

The $50 million lawsuit that Depp has filed against Heard alleges that she defamed Depp’s character when she wrote in The Washington Post about her history as a domestic abuse survivor, which never named Depp specifically in the piece but his lawyers say damaged his reputation and career anyways.

Baruch, who says that he did not know if Depp was abusive against Heard during their marriage, expressed anger at what he claims were “fake narratives” as well as what he believes was “the way [that Heard] got a fraudulent domestic violence claim to extort and blackmail.”

“It's not fair. It's not right what she did and what happened for so many people to get affected from this,” Baruch said.

Heard and Depp got married in 2015. However, in 2016, Heard filed for divorce and got a domestic violence restraining order against the actor claiming that he was physically and verbally abusive to her while under the influence of drugs and alcohol, which Depp has adamantly denied.
