For April Fools' Day, Justin Bieber did a pregnancy prank with his wife, Hailey Baldwin. A lot of people, even his own fans, were not finding his joke funny.

Bieber posted a photo of an ultrasound on Instagram, implying he and Baldwin were expecting their first child together. The singer further posted a photo of Hailey in a doctor’s office.

“If U thought it was April fools,” he wrote as the caption. Some friends and fans of the couple congratulated them for the good news. Others were confused if Bieber was serious or just doing an elaborate prank for April Fools’ Day.

Then in a third post, Bieber posted a photo of a sonogram with a puppy photoshopped onto it, revealing that it was all a joke. “Wait omg is that a ,,, APRIL FOOLS,” Bieber wrote.

After witnessing the backlash to his April Fools’ prank, Bieber posted an apology on his Instagram. “There’s always gonna be people offended, there’s also people who don’t take jokes very well, I am a prankster and it was APRIL FOOLS,” he wrote. “I didn’t at all mean to be insensitive to people who can’t have children.”

He shared that a lot of people he knows do the same prank to get a big reaction. “But I will apologize anyway and take responsibility and say sorry to people who were offended,” Bieber added.

“I truly don’t want anyone to be hurt by a prank … it’s like when I shoved cake in my little sisters face for her birthday expecting her to laugh but she cried,” he said. “You sometimes just don’t know what will hurt someone’s feelings not to compare pregnancy with cake in the face but it’s just to paint the picture of not knowing what will offend. Some might have laughed but some were offended … I think With pranks u sometimes have to roll that dice.”

Some people found the prank to be funny. Others criticized him for being insensitive to couples who struggle to conceive or have lost children. Ahead of April Fools’ Day, social media users reminded people to avoid making pregnancy announcements for a prank.
