Kate Middleton reportedly had to give up something important to her just so she could tie the knot with Prince William. The royal couple first met each other while studying at the University of St. Andrews.

In the book “William And Catherine,” royal author Andrew Morton said that the Duchess of Cambridge was forced to give up her independence after she got back together with the Duke of Cambridge. The couple broke up twice during the span of their relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend.

“There was, however, one casualty of his romantic reunion: Kate herself,” Morton said. The royal author said that Kate’s friends were also convinced that she was giving up her independence for conformity and adventure for safety.

During the couple’s second and final split in 2007, Kate stepped out in public on her own, and she was also photographed at many events in and around town. One of the things she did during her break from Prince William was to join a grueling training to be part of the women-only boat race.

But just before the competition, Prince William and Kate got back together. The mom of three decided to pull out from the race. Organizer Emma Sayle tried to convince Kate to continue with the competition, and she shared the conversation she had with the Duchess of Cambridge.

“Remember, this is not just for charity, it is for yourself,” Sayle told Kate. “Please don’t drop out. For the first time in your life you are actually doing something for yourself,” she added.

According to Morton, the all-women team never heard from Kate again. The female royal didn’t also congratulate her pals after they managed to donate a huge sum of money to a charity. The royal author said that this was one of the reasons why some of Kate’s friends were pleased when she and Prince William split. This is because they could spend more time with the royal.

“The prevailing reaction from most of them was: ‘Thank goodness that’s over!’ For years, they had watched helplessly as Kate, whose university dissertation had been on Lewis Carroll, had gradually disappeared down the rabbit hole in the Windsor wonderland, leaving her friends out in the cold,” Morton said.
