If credible sources are anything to go by, it’s very likely for Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton to get sucked into another rivalry all thanks to unheard audio recordings of the late Princess Diana that have surfaced online.

An upcoming docuseries on Netflix, "Diana: In Her Own Words" that exposes unaired audio and video of the late Princess of Wales could have The Duchesses’ of Cambridge and Sussex jostling for Diana’s place. The footage was reportedly used by Andrew Morton to write her biography in 1992.

“I think Meghan may see Diana as a role model, and feel she can relate to her. So she'll welcome more insight into Diana's life and for them to be compared,” said Paul Burrell, British butler, and a royal expert. Burrell further averred, as cited in Daily Mail, that Netflix has 'capitalized' on a demand for royal scandal. This development could build tensions between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex who have a deal with Netflix worth a reported $100 million.

But speculations are rife that Middleton is equally impactful in her own right—given how she clearly appears to be a lot confident about her royal status and is branching out on her own in terms of building an aspirational public image, thus feeling ready than ever to step into her late mother-in-law’s shoes.

“The last year has given her confidence and proved she is a strong, reliable figure able to take on engagements on her own,” opined Royal commentator Duncan Larcombe, further adding, “Kate is now finally starting to fill the shoes she's been wearing for a decade.”

The controversial Netflix documentary is likely to be released next year, which marks the princess’s 25th death anniversary. Burrell also remarked how the entire episode is going to put Harry in a tough spot, and worse still, it may create a rift between Meghan and him.

“It's very awkward as I think Meghan may see Diana as a role model, and feel she can relate to her. So, she'll welcome more insight into Diana's life and for them to be compared. But those differing feelings could create a divide between her and Harry. It could even drive them apart.”
