American singer-songwriter Lady Gaga made a scene on the pink carpet of Met Gala last weekend. Accompanying her was designer and good friend Brandon Maxwell, who revealed that night what the singer is really like as a person.

Since she started her career, Lady Gaga has always stood out because of her unique style. At the 2019 Met Gala, Maxwell revealed that there is more about the “Bad Romance” singer than just what most people credit her for.

Maxwell has been on Lady Gaga’s squad for many years. In an interview, the designer revealed that accompanying Lady Gaga at the Met Gala and assisting her with her multiple costume changes was not anything new for him, although he admitted that it made him a little nervous. Maxwell also said that while Lady Gaga’s fashion reveals that night were a huge moment for his friend, it was a rather sweet one for him.

“I, of course, was super nervous leading up but then I had to tell myself, you know, I have changed her under the stage in live performances many, many times and this is what we do,” he shared. At the Met Gala, Maxwell was the man who peeled off all the layers of Lady Gaga’s costumes on the pink carpet. He was also responsible for the look that had Gaga transitioning from an elaborate pink gown down to just a match of black bra and panties and glimmering high boots.

Maxwell described Lady Gaga as nothing less of a fantastic friend. Despite her being a big star, she has always been there for Maxwell. “Every time I looked over and saw her, I felt calm because I knew that we had each other,” he said. “And we have always had each other,” he added.

Maxwell went on to describe Lady Gaga as a driving force in his life, saying she’s one of the women closest to him who inspired him to pursue his dream and come up with his own brand. He described the singer as a “stable friend” who has always been there to catch him whenever he feels like falling. “That goes for many of the other best girlfriends in my life,” he said.

Maxwell said accompanying Lady Gaga in events as her designer is not about fame, glamor, money or being at the “cool table.” “It is really, for me, about saying thank you,” he said.
