Russell Westbrook’s tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers has been a forgettable one so it hardly comes as a surprise if both agree to part ways in the summer.

According to The Bleacher Report, the Lakers and the 2017 NBA MVP have a mutual interest in finding the point guard a new home this summer.

Considering how things have panned out this year, it was only to be expected. Westbrook has hardly shown glimpses of brilliance, struggling to show he can continue his triple-double performances in the past.

Westbrook has struggled to co-exist with other stars such as LeBron James and Anthony Davis. However, the fact that James and Davis sat out some games gave the 33-year-old more than enough opportunities to step up on their behalf.

That never happened.

So the next question is, where will Westbrook fit and recall that old explosive form. So far that remains to be seen. But it seems clear that the nine-time All-Star has trouble working with another superstar.

He has had stints with the Houston Rockets alongside James Harden and then in Washington Wizards with Bradley Beal. Although he has been effective, it remains that these pale in comparison to his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Dallas Mavericks, Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Pelicans have been suggested but most of these are hearsay.

Either way, the message is clear. Westbrook will be playing for his fifth team in five years by the offseason.

As for the Lakers, they appear well on their way to ending the season on a sour note. They suffered their third-straight loss, dampening their NBA playoff hopes.

Making the playoffs is within reach. But as far as going deep or winning it all, the chances of that do not look promising for the purple and gold.
