A Thai man allegedly cut off his genitals with scissors to get rid of a painful erection that he suffered during a frightening cannabis-induced psychotic episode.

The 23-year-old unidentified man, who reportedly has been a frequent cannabis user for the past two years, allegedly smoked 2 grams of marijuana, the equivalent of six joints, in two bong rips after he quit using cannabis for three months.

However, about two hours after he smoked the drug for the first time in months, he began to experience a painful erection. While examining himself to identify the source of the excruciating pain, the man grew paranoid that the glans of his penis looked "distorted," Daily Mail reported.

In a dazed state, the man then decided to use a pair of scissors to "trim" the skin off his penis to eradicate the pain he was suffering. However, while attempting to cut some skin off his member, he ended up amputating it completely, leaving a 2-cm stump and a 5-cm laceration in his scrotum.

Following amputation, even though the bleeding continued, the man then waited two hours before seeking attention from medics at a hospital in the city of Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Even though the doctors who attended to him briefly considered reattaching the man's penis, it was found to be too fragile and contaminated with ants. They stated that the man's member was too severely damaged and also posed a possible infection risk. After the doctors conducted surgery to clean the wound and stop the bleeding, the man was interviewed by a psychiatrist, Metro reported.

The psychiatrist found that the man was suffering from both visual and auditory hallucinations and was seeing shadows move and hearing animal noises. Following the incident, the man reportedly experienced bizarre visions for about two weeks during his recovery.

After staying in the hospital for about fourteen days, the man reported that his hallucinations had also ceased.

Meanwhile, Thailand is currently undergoing a cannabis revolution, becoming the first country in Asia to decriminalize marijuana last week. In December 2021, Thailand also removed cannabis, the plant species to which both marijuana and hemp belong, from the list of illegal drugs under Thailand´s narcotics laws.
