A man reportedly hurled a cat and two dogs out of an apartment window before proceeding to jump from the building after them.

On Thursday, April 28, at around 3:30 p.m., the 51-year-old man allegedly dropped a cat and two dogs out of the window from the 14th floor of an apartment in a Lower East Side building on 575 Grand Street, New York. The cat and one of the dogs died while the other dog broke its legs. After throwing the animals off the building, the man then proceeded to hurl himself from the 14th floor after them, New York Post reported.

After his fall, the man was rushed to Beth Israel Hospital for immediate treatment. However, he suffered “severe trauma” from the drop and died a short time later in the hospital.

The incident reportedly left his neighbors in the building horrified.

“This just ruined my whole day. I hope I don’t know this man because I’ll be sad. Really sad,” said one resident. “Something like this has never happened around here for all I know.”

“Why would he do that to those poor animals? They don’t deserve that. Lord knows why he jumped but they don’t deserve that,” said another resident of the building.

In a similar but unrelated incident, an Indian mother has been accused of shoving her two underage children into a well before also taking her own life by jumping into the same well herself after them in Dahod, Gujarat, India on Jan. 4, Latin Times reported.

The mother, identified as Minakshi Harijan, 30, allegedly threw her 7-year-old daughter and her 4-year-old son into a well and killed them following a dispute with her in-laws. After hurling her kids into the well, Harijan also jumped into the well to kill herself.

On Tuesday, Jan. 4, following a heated argument with her in-laws, Harijan abruptly left her residence, saying that she was going to collect firewood and took her two children along with her.

When Harijan and her children did not return home by evening, the family members tried to call her on her mobile phone. However, the phone calls remained unanswered until a cattle grazer heard a cell phone ringing outside a well in the neighborhood and answered the call.

When the family members rushed to the scene, they also found Harijan's slippers lying near the well. Following this, fire personnel was alerted. The authorities subsequently managed to recover the bodies of the woman and her two children from the well.

Law enforcement assured that they are conducting further investigation into the incident and speculated that Harijan's motive behind the tragic murder-suicide was her difficult relationship with her in-laws.
