A man reportedly killed his friend for refusing to give him money to buy alcohol in South Mumbai, India on Monday, Oct. 24.

The accused, identified as 44-year-old Baba Pawar, and the victim, 46-year-old Riyazuddin Ansari, were friends and did labor jobs inside the BMC fish market next to the police station. On Monday, Oct. 24, Pawar wanted money to buy alcohol and asked Ansari for the money. However, when Ansari refused to give him money, Pawar felt enraged and a heated argument ensued between the two friends, India Today reported.

Following the argument, Pawar returned a few minutes later when Ansari was sleeping. He then picked up a huge rock from the ground and dropped the rock on Ansari, who was asleep. Ansari suffered grievous injuries in the attack and died.

After committing the crime, Pawar tried to flee the scene. However, under the guidance of senior inspector Rajesh Pawar and PI Gaikwad, several police teams were formed to nab the accused. The police launched a manhunt and managed to arrest him at the MRA Marg police station in South Mumbai the same day, Kerala Kaumudi reported.

Pawar was known to be a heavy drinker and would often fight or have arguments. He was known to often create a ruckus and regularly got into altercations with people around him.

The accused, identified as Bhanu Devangan, allegedly asked his wife, Santoshi Devangan, to lend him some money to buy a bottle of liquor. After Santoshi refused to give the suspect the money he demanded, Bhanu reportedly felt enraged and erupted into a heated tirade against his wife. During the confrontation, however, Bhanu, in a fit of rage, allegedly picked up a stick and began brutally bludgeoning his wife in the head.

Santoshi, who suffered severe injuries in the attack, subsequently collapsed unresponsive onto the floor. When Bhanu saw that Santoshi was bleeding profusely, he panicked and rushed her to the nearby district hospital.

The doctors at the hospital determined her to be in critical condition and referred her to a facility that can offer advanced treatment. Following this, Santoshi was transferred to Raipur hospital. However, she was declared dead upon arrival at the health facility.
