A Saudi citizen has been accused of murdering his newly married wife by smashing a heavy rock against her head and then running over her with his car for good measure in Hawiya-Taif Road, a mountainous route in Saudi Arabia, on Aug. 4.

The accused, in his 30s, was reportedly driving home with his wife from a trip to one of the Saudi governorates when the killing transpired. Authorities have withheld the identity of the suspect and the victim as of now.

However, when the couple reportedly arrived at a remote area, the husband stopped the vehicle and proceeded to forcefully pull his wife out of the car. He went on to grab a large rock by the side of the road and allegedly repeatedly smashed her head in with the boulder.

After leaving the woman in a pool of her own blood by the roadside, the suspect reportedly boarded his vehicle once more before deciding to brutally run over his wife's body with his car for good measure, before fleeing the scene, reported the Saudi Gazette.

Security forces and the Red Crescent Authority teams were summoned to the scene late Aug. 4 after they were alerted by motorists of a bloodied woman by the side of the road.

The Criminal Investigation Wing of the Taif Police immediately launched a massive manhunt to track down the culprit. The accused reportedly turned off his phone and GPS in a futile attempt to evade authorities. Security forces managed to corner the suspect at the Al-Zima area near Mecca. The accused reportedly surrendered to the officers without resistance, according to the Siasat Daily.

Following this, the suspect has been handed over to public prosecution to complete the investigation and trial into the incident. The man will be further tested for drugs and mental disorders. The murder reportedly happened just one week after their marriage.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a man has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife by injecting a lethal cyanide solution into her saline IV drip bottle while she was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Ankleshwar town, Gujarat, India, Latin Times reported.

Jignesh Patel, 32, has been accused of introducing a fatal cyanide solution into the saline IV drip bottle of his wife Urmila Vasava, 34, after she was admitted to a private hospital due to chest pain. Vasava reportedly died a day after she was admitted to the hospital under mysterious circumstances. A case of accidental death was subsequently registered and her samples were sent to the forensic science laboratory (FSL) by the police

The incident came to light when the police received the FSL report on Friday, Aug. 6, confirming an outrageous amount of cyanide in the victim's bloodstream and ascertaining that Vasava died of lethal cyanide poisoning.

Police speculate that Patel murdered Vastava as the couple had been struggling with marital issues. Patel is suspected to have procured the cyanide solution used in the crime from a factory in Ankleshwar, where he worked.

A murder case has been registered against Patel under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was arrested on Saturday, Aug. 7.
