An Oceanside resident shot and killed an alleged robber during a home invasion early Wednesday. The shooting took place at about 1:15 am at a residence in Moonstone Bay Drive in the North Valley area. The San Diego resident, who has not been identified, allegedly confronted the armed suspect while inside the home.

According to Fox5, police said a group suspected of carrying out robberies was responsible for the home invasion. One of the group’s members was armed with a gun and shot at the resident who caught him inside the house. The homeowner had gotten their own weapon and shot at the intruders, wounding one of them. The robbers fled the scene leaving behind their armed accomplice.

Oceanside Police Department said both responding police officers along with paramedics arrived at the home and tried to give the 31-year-old suspect medical aid, however he was later pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect’s name has not yet been released.

"We know that at least one of the suspects was armed and returned fire,” Oceanside Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Atenza said.

Another man from the group was believed to have also been shot, however officers are not yet sure if he was shot by the resident or was caught in the crossfire. The homeowner was unharmed.

Shortly after the incident, authorities pulled over a vehicle loaded with a group of people near Douglas Drive. Cops found an injured 29-year-old male, identified as Deshawn Ingram, in the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital and reported to be in stable condition.

Detectives said the shooting occurred inside the home after five men and a woman had forced their way into the home with intentions to rob the resident. The homeowner was able to retrieve a gun and shot at the intruders. It is not yet known how many weapons were seized by the cops and if any other residents were home at the time of the robbery.

Police have arrested five individuals on suspicion of armed robbery with ages ranging from 21 to 29 years old. Ingram had been recently convicted of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with another Oceanside case last April. He had been out on bond while awaiting his sentencing.

All arrested suspects will be facing murder and robbery charges, and although the deceased suspect was allegedly shot by the homeowner, his accomplices face murder charges for their involvement in the crime that resulted in his death.

The homeowner has not been charged till this time.
