A man who allegedly murdered his wife, their family dog, and injured his daughter was shot dead by police officers while resisting arrest in Walled Lake, Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 11.

Walled Lake Police officers received a 911 call from a woman on Sunday morning, Sept. 11, requesting help and informing them that her father had shot her and her mother. Even though the officers did not get the location of the incident from the call, they were able to trace the line to a home on Glenwood, Fox News reported.

When the officers arrived at the residence on the 1200 block of Glenwood Court, a man, identified as 53-year-old Igor Lanis, exited the house carrying a shotgun in his hand and began firing at officers. The officers returned fire at Lanis in retaliation. Lanis was shot and killed on the scene.

"Suspect exits the home and opens fire, the Walled Lake officer is over here - the home directly behind him gets struck multiple times by the suspect fire, in fact, it blew out the front window on the door," said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.

After shooting Lanis dead, officers entered the residence and found Lanis' 25-year-old daughter trying to crawl out of the house after being shot multiple times. The daughter, who suffered “super traumatic injuries to her back and legs,” was taken to an area hospital for treatment and is now in stable condition, KIRO 7 reported.

When the authorities searched the home further, they found the man's 56-year-old wife and family dog dead inside the residence. The woman had been shot at least four times with a handgun.

"He often walked his dog. He had a fluffy white dog that we would often see; the dog was beautiful just how we knew him, the guy with the fluffy white dog," said Victoria Whitnauer, a neighbor.

Officers stated that they do not know what led to the shooting. However, they stated that the man appeared to have mental health issues.

“I think there was a danger to anybody,” Sheriff Bouchard said. “He had his keys with him so who knows where he was headed.”

No officers were injured in the incident. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office has launched an investigation into the alleged murder.
