A lot of activity is brewing in Mazda. Earlier today, we reported the resignation of Mazda North America Chief Marketing Officer Don Romano. Last month, Mazda announced expansions of its Hiroshima manufacturing facility to meet the growing demands of its CX-5 crossover. What's in store for Mazda in the future?
Today, Mazda has dropped the first teaser clip of its next-generation Mazda6 midsize sedan. Continuous developments in Mazda's Skyactiv project has allowed the new Mazda6 to be several pounds lighter than its predecessor without sacrificing dimensions. Carried over from the CX-5, the base motor for the Mazda6 is the 2.0-liter four cylinder engine producing about 155 hp and 150 lb.-ft. of torque.
Engine options are expected to follow as well, including Mazda's Skyactiv-D diesel with an output of approximately 165 hp and a healthy 300 lb.-ft. of torque. A V6 powerplant has not been confirmed.
Design wise, the front end of the Mazda6 (pretty much the only part we can make out) carries much of the same lines as the Mazda Takeri concept first seen at the New York Auto Show.
