Most girls probably dream of meeting their prince charming one day and living happily ever after, just like they were taught in fairytales. But of course there will always a few exceptions, such as this Scottish lady who didn’t mind dumping Queen Elizabeth II’s oldest son and heir apparent, Prince Charles.

This happened in 1980 before Prince Charles got married to Princess Diana. Back then, the young royal was considered to be the world’s most eligible bachelor for obvious reasons.

However, a Scottish heiress was not that impressed even with Prince Charles’ credentials. Anna Wallace, who was romantically linked to the royal in 1978 or 1979, reportedly turned down Charles’ proposal not only once but even twice.

In fact, Wallace ended her relationship with Charles with harsh words, as shared by Penny Junor in her book “The Duchess,” published in 2017. Apparently, Wallace was furious over Charles’ obvious attraction toward Camilla Parker Bowles.

“Charles had taken her to two successive balls and then danced with Camilla for most of both evenings,” the author wrote. “Anna dumped him with the words: ‘No one treats me like that — not even you.’”

However, people somehow expected Wallace to mince no words when expressing her disappointment over her ex-lover. In fact, she was nicknamed “Whiplash Wallace” due to her fiery temperament.

At that time, Prince Charles already felt the pressure of finding and marrying a suitable partner. “What’s depressing — or impressive, depending on your point of view — is the sheer number of women involved,” royal biographer Christopher Wilson wrote on the Telegraph. “In all, the Prince, in his fruitless search, romanced over two dozen girls.”

In his search for a future bride, Charles had many girlfriends and flings. He became romantically involved with Lucia Santa Cruz, the daughter of the Chilean ambassador, as well as Sibylla Dorman, the daughter of the Governor of Malta.

But there was one lady before Charles met Diana who was considered to be a good partner for the prince. In the early seventies, Lady Jane Wellesley, the daughter of the Duke of Wellington, was seen as the perfect choice for Charles.

“Considered by many to be the prime candidate for marriage to the Prince, with her dazzling good looks and impeccable pedigree, she enjoyed a relationship with Charles in 1973-4,” Wilson wrote. However, the relationship fell apart due to relentless media scrutiny.
