What is Mercedes-Benz if not its heritage? Mercedes has just unveiled its halo-of-a-halo-car, a limited-edition customer SLS AMG GT3 racing car to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Benz tuning house "AMG."
The SLS AMG, itself an homage to the classic Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, has enjoyed a lot of international motorsport success in GT racing. Having won 32 racing events for the 2012 Motor Sports Season, including three driver and team titles in the FIA GT3 European Championship, the ADAC GT Masters and the FIA GT1 World Championship, the AMG Customer Sports Programme chose the SLS AMG GT3 as the perfect automobile to celebrate AMG's 45 years of performance.
Limited to just 5 examples the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 "45th Anniversary" edition will feature a very special designo magno graphite matte paint finish first featured on the SL65 AMG "45th Anniversary," which first debuted at the New York Auto Show in April. Beyond the matte finish, the GT3 will receive special 45th anniversary livery as well.
Standard issue for GT3 racing cars, the SLS AMG GT3 features all requisite hardware including the burly 6.3 liter V8 engine and aggressive track aero featuring a wider stance, underbody aero, canards, massive vents, and a gigantic rear spoiler.
Not only will AMG only produce 5 examples, each SLS AMG GT3 "45th Anniversary" will be hand signed by racing driver Bernd Schneider and the engine technician responsible for the throbbing powerplant in the GT3.
The package will also include a guided tour around AMG's facility as well as a track coaching session with professional AMG drivers. The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 45th Anniversary will cost 446,250 euros including 19% German VAT.
