Miss California, Nadia Mejia, was one step closer to becoming the possible winner of Miss USA 2016, but something tells us that her poor answer in the Q&A round caused her the spot in the Top 3.

Mejia, who was one of the gorgeous beauty queens in the Top 5, became a trending topic on the Internet and for the wrong reasons. With her exotic features and flawless physique, Mejia was a fan favorite from the get-go in the competition. However, it took one flop to snatch her dream of becoming the next Miss USA and opportunity to represent the country in Miss Universe.

During the 2016 Miss USA pageant on Sunday night, judge Nigel Barker asked the aspiring Miss USA about social and economical inequality and how she would narrow the gap between the rich and the poor. Mejia could not exactly come up with an answer as she closed her eyes, took a deep breath and took a couple of seconds to respond.

"I think that the rich need to be able to be giving and I think the poor need to work hard and I think the middle class need to come together and find an in between," expressed the contestant. Watch the complete flop below.

Following the nerve-racking situation that was aired live on television, Mejia, daughter of one-hit wonder '90s star "Rico Suave," poked at herself on social media.

In the best way possible, she explained to her over 142K followers on Instagram what happened on stage. To the beat of Backstreet Boys' "I Want it that Way" and with the company of BSB group member Howie Dorough, Mejia sang the following message:

"Tell me why? I didn't make the top three. Tell me why? That's OK I'm with Howie. Tell me why? Why can't the U.S.A. see i don't know about economy."

Fans were quick to react and showed their support to the West Coast beauty queen. "That question was horrible , you did amazing," said one fan.

The winner of Miss USA 2016 is Deshauna Barber from the District Of Columbia.

The live telecast of Miss USA 2016 took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Hosted by Julianne Hough and Terrence Jenkins, the opening scene had a special cameo by Steve Harvey poking fun at his Miss Colombia blunder during Miss Universe 2016. Both were joined by Ashley Graham from backstage having inside scoop and all the drama from behind the scenes.

Musical performances by Chris Young and Backstreet Boys delighted the contestants and the audience. Judges for the telecast included Ali Landry, Crystle Stewart, Joe Zee and Laura Brown.
