Following days of Elon Musk railing against President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill," the billionaire CEO finally took a direct shot at Trump, marking a dramatic escalation in the growing rift between two of the most influential men in American politics.

Musk reposted a screenshot of comments that were seemingly previously visible only to his paying "Super Followers" on X.

"Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate," the screenshots read. The pink star signifying a "super follow," indicates that only the exclusive group of his paid subscribers could see the original tweets. "Such ingratitude," the tweet added.

The repost featured commentary on a screenshot of Musk's apparent semi-private comments. "He's not wrong," the X user wrote.

The escalation comes amid Musk's fervent campaign in opposition to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that began Tuesday, just days after Musk officially stepped back from his role at the White House with DOGE.

Earlier on Thursday, Trump responded to Musk's stream of criticism directed at Congress and the bill, telling reporters that Musk now suffers from "Trump Derangement Syndrome." The president claimed that Musk was familiar with the Congressional budget bill and had "no problems with it," until a cut to an electric vehicle mandate that would negatively impact Tesla was added.

"I'm very disappointed in Elon," Trump emphasized.

Rather than chasten Musk, Trump's comments apparently set him off, with Musk publicly criticizing Trump for the first time. Since he endorsed Trump during the 2024 election, Musk has dedicated a significant amount of money and his public persona to championing Trump.

"He hasn't said bad about me personally," Trump noted alongside his disappointment. "But I'm sure that will be next."

Musk followed up his attack on Trumps "ingratitude" by sharing a meme criticizing Trump and the congressional bill. In the meme, Trump says "I have a plan to cut spending," then hands a reporter a sheet of paper, which is revealed to say "INCREASE SPENDING." Musk commented a crying-laughing emoji on the post before reposting.
