The Los Angeles Lakers appear to be quitting already although there is still time to turn things around. They have been losing games even with LeBron James on the roster but the problem is that the four-time NBA champion has just not gotten ample support.

A key factor here was the people that the Lakers assembled. It is a known fact that they tried to put a super team together but the addition of Russell Westbrook did not pan out.

Rick Barry, someone who knows what it takes to win an NBA title shared his thoughts on the Lakers’ debacle. For him, the purple and gold just failed to put the right players together and the injuries further compounded their woes.

The eight-time All-Star gave his take when he appeared on the Sports For All PH podcast on Mar. 11.

“They tried to put a team together to do it but they just didn’t put the right people together. Then they had injuries, [Anthony] Davis has been in and out all season long. And LeBron [James] was out for a little while. They just didn’t jell,” Barry stated.

In all, the Lakers were unable to build any chemistry. While some may pin the blame on Westbrook, the fact that Davis and James were also sidelined for some games due to injuries was also a telling factor.

“They didn’t have the right chemistry, the right people to accomplish. They tried to put together a super team but it didn’t work because they didn’t put the right pieces together. So it will be interesting to see what’s going to happen,” Barry quipped.

As things stand now, the Lakers may find it difficult to reach their goals. The playoffs may be plausible but their NBA story for this 2021-22 NBA season may not end up delivering the proper ending that Lakers’ management had hoped for.
