Kenneth Petty, husband of Nicki Minaj, is now officially registered as a sex offender in California. His registration comes after he came under fire previously for not disclosing his status when he relocated from New York.

In November 2019, Kenneth Petty’s legal raps started when the Beverly Hills Police Department found out he was a registered sex offender in New York but had not registered in California. The police arrested him for not registering but they released him after he was able to pay a $20,000-bond. Following his release, the L.A. County Police charged him for his failure to register but it wasn’t until March 4 that he turned himself into federal authorities.

“He is required to submit to electronic monitoring and his travel was restricted to Southern California,” said the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

As part of the California Megan’s Law database, a database that tracks all the sex offenders in the state, Petty is now required to wear an ankle monitor and adhere to a curfew all the time. He is also required to keep himself clean substance-wise, as one of the conditions of the bond is no drugs.

Prosecutors initially sought to place him under house arrest but his lawyer rejected the proposal. While his L.A. County charge has already been dropped, Petty will have to appear in court on March 23 for a status conference, which will determine the next steps in the trial on April 28.

In 1995, Petty was required to register as a sex offender in New York as a result of his conviction for the attempted first-degree rape of a 16-year-old girl. He was sentenced to four years in prison for the crime. In 2002, he was also convicted of 1st-degree manslaughter for his involvement in a fatal shooting in New York. He had served years behind bars before his release in 2013.

Meanwhile, Wendy Williams slammed Nicki Minaj on Tuesday for marrying Petty. The host, who has an ongoing feud with the female rapper, addressed Petty’s recent legal drama and told Minaj on national television that it’s going to be her first story the following day.

“But let me tell you something Nicki, that’s going to be my first story tomorrow,” she said. “I’m going to lead you with this: You should’ve never married him because now you’ve ruined everything about what your brand could be,” she added.
