Olympian Kim Glass Gets Brutally Attacked By Suspected Homeless Man On LA Streets

Olympic medal-winning volleyball player Kim Glass took to Instagram to reveal horrific facial injuries she suffered after being attacked randomly by a homeless man in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, July 9.

In the video, the 37-year-old former athlete is seen with her right eye blackened almost entirely shut, and a nasty gash on her nose. Glass said she received stitches and has multiple fractures in her right eye.

"I do have multiple fractures," Glass said of her injuries.

Glass said she was saying goodbye to a friend when a homeless man, later identified as Semeon Tesfamariam, suddenly ran up to her.

"He had something in his hand," she said of the attacker. "And he just looked at me with some pretty hateful eyes," she recalled.

The man hurled a metal pipe at Glass from a few feet away, striking her eye.

"As I turned to tell my friend, ‘I think something’s wrong with him and I think he’s going to hit the car’ — before I knew it, a big metal bolt-like pipe hit me," she said.

"It happened so fast. He literally flung it from the street."

"It kinda took me down and out," she said.

Glass said some passerby pinned down her alleged attacker and “held him down until the cops came”.

The 51-year-old attacker was booked for felony assault with a deadly weapon and was refused bail, the LAPD said.

"Guys, just be safe out there," Glass said in her video. "I wasn’t ready for it, and there’s a lot of mentally ill people on these streets right now."

"You shouldn’t have to be fearful when you walk, but it’s true. You guys just be safe, OK," she said.

In an update posted on social media, Glass said she will not be needing any surgeries and her vision will remain intact.

"As much as it scares us and reminds us of the crazy in the world or what we deem bad, that day also reminded me of all the beauty in the world — my friends/fam who had my back and the absolute strangers that came and didn’t leave my side. That’s the way people are and that’s the way community should work," Glass wrote.
