Despite posting a 0-1 record before Tuesday, Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner has dominated the Dodgers. It showed again as he picked up his first win of the season against them, 6-3 in front of 45,203 at Dodger Stadium.

Going into the game, Cashner had a 1.06 ERA against the Dodgers good for 5th lowest among NL pitchers against a single opponent. Cashner has been filthy versus the boys in blue, totaling 29 strikeouts and 6 walks in five career games against them.

“Cashner has given us fits, that’s enough for us to handle right now,” Said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly before the game.

Cashner was a big part of the Padres offense as well, hitting a double to the gap in left in the first inning scoring two. With two outs in the second, shortstop Hanley Ramirez committed an error on a routine play to short. It was Hanley’s 14th error of the season.

The play would come back to haunt the Dodgers as two batters later Cashner helped his own cause with the two RBI double. Cashner made it to third on another error by Ramirez. Padres’ third baseman Corey Spangenberg extended the inning with an RBI single moments later.

Jed Gyorko homered off Dodgers starter Roberto Hernandez in the top of the third inning to give the Padres a 5-0 lead; Alex Guerrero pinch-hit for Hernandez in the bottom half, ending his night early.

Hernandez allowed 5 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits with one walk and three strikeouts over three innings of work.

Adrian Gonzalez got the Dodgers on the board in the bottom of the 5th inning with a two-run blast to right center. It was Gonzalez’s 23rd home run of the season and his 4th round tripper in three games. Gonzalez now has 102 RBI’s on the year, tying him for second place in all of baseball.

Matt Kemp extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a double in the 6th. Justin Turner continued his hot hitting as well off the bench. The young utility infielder pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth and got an RBI single to raise his average to .327 on the season.

The Dodgers had a chance against Cashner in the bottom of the 7th. Puig and Ellis started off the inning with back-to-back singles, but the rally went nowhere as Cashner retired the next three batters in order.

Cashner (3-7) allowed two runs on nine hits spread out over 7 strong innings. His one big mistake was the HR to Gonzalez in the 6th.

Game Notes:
Hanley Ramirez showed off his strength in batting practice before the game, launching a home run that cleared the left field pavilion and went out of the stadium. Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp and others cheered and mobbed him as he flipped his bat and walked back to the dugout.
