“Parks & Recreation” has a dedicated fan base, however, the ratings do not reflect its popularity. The series is back on NBC for fall TV with its sixth season; however, the next three episodes are getting bumped following poor ratings. This is not the first comedy failure for the network, last week; NBC revealed that “Welcome to the Family” was being pulled from the TV lineup immediately.
But it seems, as though, NBC is not yet willing to pull “Parks & Rec” but instead wants to bump some episodes. According to TV Line, NBC will bump the next three episodes of “Parks & Rec,” including the second episode with Tatiana Masalany from “Orphan Black,” and the Halloween episode that was actually set to air on October 31. Instead of the “Parks & Rec” episodes, NBC will air two episodes of “The Voice” and a Halloween-themed special of “Saturday Night Live.” Following the new schedule, “Parks & Rec” will then play catch-up in November, airing back-to-back episodes on November 14 and 21.
This isn’t the only bad news plaguing the already struggling comedy series; two of the show’s veteran actors will be departing mid-season. In August, it was announced that both Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones are scheduled to leave “Parks & Rec” as a result of a formerly developed story line. Lowe and Jones, play the couple Chris Taeger and Ann Perkins who recently discovered they are pregnant and expecting their first child together. The couple exits the series after eventually deciding to leave Pawnee to start a family together somewhere else.
“Parks & Rec” executive producer, Mike Schur, confrimed Lowe and Jones's departure from the comedy series in a statement, “The news about Rob and Rashida is true, they will be leaving the show after the 13th episode of the upcoming season six. We’ve been working on their storyline for four seasons now, and heading into this year, with the two of them contemplating parenthood, it felt like a natural time to move them into the next phase.”
