A 76-year-old man could spend the rest of his life in prison for reportedly accidentally touching the breast of a nurse as he was trying to read her name badge.

Andrew Sington is being charged with sexual assault after he was visited in a hospital by a nurse.

The widower is reportedly short-sighted and was not wearing his glasses at the time. He was spotted by his partner, patient and other staff members allegedly touching the nurse’s breast.

"I am sorry I didn't mean to touch your boob, I was just checking your name,” Sington said before a Liverpool Crown Court, LBC reported.

The incident was captured by CCTV cameras, something that happened on Nov. 13, 2021.

In the video, the unnamed nurse could be seen entering the room and would then introduce herself to Sington. The pensioner would then pat her on the arm.

“I just dismissed that,” the nurse batted. “Some people are quite tactile and I didn't think anything of it. I just sat down and there was some general conversation. It was about 30 minutes into the visit when the patient was becoming quite restless and we decided to take her back to the ward.”

After the incident, the nurse said to be in her 40s immediately reported the incident and was left in a state of shock.

'We were standing, preparing to leave and close to the door and the patient's mum was talking about when she would next visit. Mr. Sington then put his arm across from the right and touched me on my left breast,” the nurse said.

The court adjourned a probation report and Sington was ordered to appear before a Liverpool Magistrates Court for sentencing on Nov. 25.

“We have reviewed the CCTV footage and are satisfied the incident took place as described by the prosecution,” chairman of the bench Frank Dainty said.

Sington has 21 days to file an appeal with the Crown Court.
