Perez Hilton admitted that he regrets hurting so many celebrities throughout his career. Hilton runs the Perez Hilton website, one of the most notorious celebrity gossip sites today.

Hilton founded the Perez Hilton website in 2004 to mock celebrities and out them without their consent. Over the years, the website has become so massively popular that he did not quite realize the hostility he had built up running the site.

Hilton admitted the backlash was quick when he created the site. In his memoir “TMI: My Life in Scandal,” Hilton revealed the hate he has received since running the Perez Hilton site has been too much for him. “People wrote such hateful comments that I couldn’t bring myself to read even half of them,” he wrote.

Hilton also admitted that the strength of the hate storm shook him and popped the bubble he had been living in. “I realized for the first time that it wasn’t just a handful of people who disliked what I did—it was the overwhelming majority. I finally understood that the things I wrote genuinely hurt people, and deeply,” he wrote.

The “most hated man in gossip” also revealed how he weaponized his website against the people he felt wronged him, including big stars like Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga. He revealed that when Ariana and her mother turned him down when he offered to manage her career, he was really hurt so he used his website to attack the singer.

“I regret that,” he wrote.

He also shared how Roseanne Barr once hated him so much that she wanted to kidnap him and take him to her farm in Hawaii so she could charge him of trespassing and shoot him. Hilton said he did not care then because he thought he would be successful forever. “It was also because I thought I was happy,” he wrote. “In reality, I was drowning in negativity,” he added.

One of the highlights of his memoir was his love-hate relationship with Lady Gaga and how their friendship that started in 2008 turned into enmity in 2011. Some two years ago, he revealed receiving thousands of hate mails from Lady Gaga’s fans accusing him of tormenting the singer. He said he could not believe how things got to that point, considering how close he and Lady Gaga used to be.

Now a father of three, Hilton still runs the Perez Hilton site. However, he wants to be gentler with his words and less cruel than before. “One of the many things I regret is that I hurt so many people by giving them nasty nicknames, and above all that I was unkind to the children of celebrities,” he wrote.

We can’t think of a time when Perez Hilton was in the closet. Even before beginning his blogging career, he briefly worked as a media relations assistant for the LGBT rights organization GLAAD, was a freelance writer for gay publications, worked as a receptionist for the NYC gay events club Urban Outings, and was briefly the managing editor of Instinct, a gay men's magazine.
