An "ubsubstantiated" bomb threat stalled a plane headed from Shannon, Ireland into the U.S. after an anonymous man called in with a tip. Investigators searching the Wednesday afternoon flight said the claim was unfounded. The plane was taken to a remote part of the airport to allow the Department of Homeland Security to check the plane and its passengers.

"We were aware of a possible security issue with the flight and out of an abundance of caution taxied the aircraft to a remote location, where it was met by law enforcement and emergency personnel," said Davien Anderson, a spokesperson for U.S. Airways.

The landing was not an emergency as it was scheduled to land in Philadelphia International, where the plane was searched, at 2:05 p.m., NBC News reported. US Air Flight #777 landed at 1:58 p.m., according to the airline's website.

The 171 passengers and eight crew members were escorted off the plane and shuttled to an undisclosed location where they were both searched and interviewed. Bomb-sniffing dogs were also employed in the search. The investigation prompted later flights to be delayed, according to airport spokeswoman Victoria Lupica.
