Ten years ago, Porsche introduced its Cayenne SUV into a mixed market. Too controversial for some yet wildly popular for others, the Cayenne's commercial success led Porsche to earn record breaking profits, allowing the company to continue building its flagship 911 sports car without financial hindrance.
Now, the Stuttgart automaker is ready to introduce a second SUV to the portfolio, the smaller Audi Q5-based Macan CUV. Facing off against the likes of the Land Rover Evoque and the BMW X3, initial predictions from Porsche estimated that around 45,000 units of the Macan will be sold when it hits the market next year.
Now, Porsche believes its numbers were severely conservative -- a new prediction is confident that the Macan sales should hit 75,000, a 66 percent boost over previous expectations.

In 2011, Porsche has sold a total of 118,865 vehicles. If we were to create a rough equation using the 2011 figure as a constant, then the addition of the Macan to the Porsche line-up stands to boost annual sales to 193,865, a giant 63 percent increase over 2011.
While news of more Porsche crossovers will likely cause the Porsche purists to get hot and bothered for all the wrong reasons, just remember that the Porsche 918 hybrid super car will be arriving soon!
