President Donald Trump has suggested that suspect in the fatal shooting of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk was in custody and suggested the man had been turned in by his father. Speaking on Fox and Friends, Trump emphasized that his information was preliminary but said it was "the person we're looking for."
According to Trump, a minister who is also connected to law enforcement recognized the suspect and approached the man's father. "Somebody that was very close to him said, 'Hm, that's him,' and essentially went to the father, went to a U.S. Marshal—who was fantastic, by the way," Trump said. He added that the minister "brought him to a U.S. Marshal" and that the father then convinced his son to surrender.
Trump described the suspect as being taken to a police station. "They drove into the police headquarters, and he's there now," he said. The president cautioned, "I'm always subject to be corrected, but I'm just giving you based on what I'm hearing."
