Even by royal standards, the progression of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship is considered fast-paced. But it turns out that there might be one very important reason why the couple decided to marry and have a baby as soon as they can.

Harry’s engagement and eventual marriage to Meghan have been described by the media as a “whirlwind romance.” Indeed, the phrase seems to be an apt description, especially when one compares their relationship timeline to that of Prince William and Kate Middleton, who tied the knot a decade after they first met.

In contrast, Harry and Meghan, who first met when they were introduced by a mutual friend in 2016, already tied the knot in 2018. Seemingly wasting no time at all, the couple welcomed their firstborn, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, just a year later.

However, there are those who believe that there’s a reason for Harry and Meghan to breeze through with the engagement, wedding and baby making. “Though the one person who he wishes was around to see him fall in love and become a father isn’t here, he does have an important family member who stepped up in Princess Diana’s place,” CheatSheet wrote.

Apparently, Harry wanted his grandfather, Prince Philip, to witness one of the happiest moments of his life — his marriage to Meghan. The Duke of Edinburg might be a controversial figure, but there’s no denying the fact that he was a very important person to William and Harry, especially as the two were still growing up.

Princess Diana’s unexpected death in 1997 was a huge shock, not only to her fans worldwide but most especially to her young children, William and Harry, who were only 15 and 12 years old, respectively, at that time. It was Prince Philip who reportedly took over the void left when their mother passed away.

William and Harry, along with their grandfather, holed up at Balmoral to shield the young princes from the press. It was during this time that the Duke of Edinburgh became closer to his two grandsons.

This is especially true with Harry. The Duke of Sussex became much closer to Philip since they both share the same sense of humor and also bonded due to their military careers.

Seen in this light, Harry and Meghan’s seemingly hasty decision to start a family is a smart choice. Not only were both Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip able to attend their wedding, but the two senior royals were also even able to see their great-grandson, Baby Archie.
