Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s jet-setting ways have irked millions across the globe— and for a good reason. The royal couple took three trips in 14 days on private jets, which clearly didn’t resonate with their roles as active campaigners who address burning environmental issues like climate change.

A volley of netizens took to Quora to voice the irony behind what the royal couple preached and what reflected as their actions. “Harry and Meghan seem to be huge hypocrites for lecturing us on climate change awhile taking 3 trips in 14 days on private jets,” Sharon Ann Cummins-Royes, a Librarian, Teacher, Australian Women's History buff, said. “What do we think? Would we care about the trips if Harry hadn’t made such a big deal of it?” she added.

Citing similar views, another user from the U.K. expressed her displeasure. “Yes, people do care because not only are their actions destroying the planet it's extremely crass to rub their extreme wealth into taxpayers' faces!” Daisy Ann Jones, another Quora user, stated. “Taking private jets Is all about Discretion necessity & circumstances! One could ask where is the equality In the Monarchy full stop? People who have unearned wealth rubbing it into poor people’s faces is extremely thoughtless!” she added.

The debate was divided in opinion, though. While the move seemed unsavory and unwanted on the royal couple’s part, several others felt the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were being targeted and called out for actions that the society at large is to be blamed for. “What I do know is that those people whinging about Harry and Meghan taking private jets are also people who haven’t considered recycling, and haven’t cared about the environment until now,” David Byrne wrote on Quora.

“So if they now care about the environment, because of their outrage about Harry and Meghan taking private jets, but only Harry and Meghan and not the rest of the Royals who have traveled in private jets for years, then at least them using private jets has achieved something," he added. "However, a good portion of those whingers also don’t believe in climate change, global warming or even know what carbon dioxide is, so really they don’t care, except it gives them an opportunity to bitch about Harry and Meghan, again," David went on.

Thinking along similar lines, another user attributed the fury to envy. “This is nothing but the gutter press, racists, and haters finding yet ANOTHER lie to spread about the Duchess of Sussex and by extension, her husband,” Eileen Wood said. “No one gives a rodent’s rump about anyone in the Royal Family using private jets. They’ve been doing it for years. The Cambridges didn’t fly on a commercial jet to get to Mustique for their holiday this summer, you know,” she added.
