Prince William is a public figure so keeping a secret is really hard for him. The citizens want the Royal Family to be more open or they will be accused of being snubs.

This is why the Duke of Cambridge and the other members of the royals try to share as much as they can to the public but sometimes being too open leads to people betraying them too. Just like what happened to William - He once had a confidante with whom he shared his true feelings about becoming a king, but that person sold him out after he divulged their conversation to the public.

It is surprising to know that Prince William’s confidante was the former British prime minister Tony Blair. He is a high-ranking official who he trusted that is why he did not hesitate to talk to him about personal matters. He regretted his to have an honest conversation with the ex-PM as he was clearly stabbed in the back and it was really upsetting for him.

It was reported that this incident happened at the time when Princess Diana just passed away and the duke was still trying to figure out how he will fulfill his destiny as the future head of the state. According to Express, Prince William was a teenager when he had a heart to heart talk with Blair at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland, but the politician divulged everything they talked about through his book titled “A Journey.”

In the autobiography that was published in 2010, Blair hinted that Prince William was “conflicted between public position and private emotion.” He added that when Prince Charle’s eldest son spoke to him, he was not just grieving for his mother’s recent death but he was also very angry.

“He knew, rationally, why the week between Diana’s death and the funeral had to be as it had been, but he felt acutely the conflict between public position and private emotion,” Blair wrote. “He knew now what being a prince and a king meant. For all the sense of duty, the prison walls of hereditary tradition must have seemed too high a price to pay.”

It was reported that Prince William was seething in anger after learning that Blair exposed their private conversations. A palace aide said that the prince thought all the discussions with a prime minister will remain confidential but he realized too late that he was wrong.

Finally, with the unexpected betrayal, Prince William is now more careful with whom he confided with. He is also very cautious with regards to the things he reveals because he could not trust the people around him anymore.
