Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie’s stature in the royal family is further pushed down with their cousins’ growing family. As the hierarchy of the Princesses of York goes farther from royal to borderline normal, so does the spotlight on them. Is the royal family neglecting Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson's daughters?

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are princesses in their own right, thanks to Prince Andrew, Prince Charles’ younger brother. As these princesses are being moved farther down in the line of succession by the expanding family of Prince Charles, they become less restricted by royal duties and protocols.

The thin line between royal and normal becomes an issue for some. For instance, unlike Prince William and Kate Middleton, the two Princesses of Yorks are free of royal duties. Instead, they have a career of their own and support themselves.

But Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are criticized for their lavish lifestyles. From November 2014 to December 2016, the two princesses flew about 25 times around the world. Princess Eugenie’s wedding in 2018 attracted negative feedback too. Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's wedding reportedly cost $2.5 million of taxpayers’ money to cover security and public safety expenses.

Prince Andrew, father of Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, reportedly tried to raise his daughter’s standing in the royal family and requested to have them filled with royal duties. Prince Charles, however, denied the request.

According to news, Prince Charles agreed that the princesses should be treated properly but cannot hold public duties and be paid with taxpayers’ money. Funding must be another reason why Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s million-dollar worth of 24-hour police security was removed in 2017.

Are the princesses being neglected and forgotten by the royal family? The Quora community shared some insights on the question. The princesses are far from being forgotten and neglected. Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie may be eighth and ninth, respectively, in the line of succession to the throne, but the fact is that they are still Queen Elizabeth II’s granddaughters.

The Princesses of York do not hold any royal duties since it will be pointless to assign them some as the princesses are far from becoming queens in the future, said one of the comments on the forum. The royal family may just have strategically wanted the media to focus on Prince Charles' sons and their families, who are closer to the British throne.

The princesses are reportedly very close to Her Majesty. The Queen is very fond of her two granddaughters, particularly of Princess Eugenie. The Princesses of York may have spaced out from the hierarchy of the royal family, but they are still princesses by birth. Moreover, they get to enjoy more freedom and ridiculous hats.
