One of the things that set Queen Elizabeth, Prince William, Prince Harry and other members of the royal family from the rest of the population is that they possess royal blood. Due to marriages with nonroyals in previous generations, some members of the royal family have a more diluted bloodline compared to others.

Thus, it’s but common for some fans to speculate if one particular royal possesses more royal bloodline than another royal. In fact, someone posted the question “Who has more royal blood, Queen Elizabeth II or Prince Phillip?” on Quora, which resulted in a diverse range of answers from the site’s users.

Surprisingly, there are those who believe that it’s Prince Philip, not Queen Elizabeth II, who has more royal blood running in his veins. The reasoning behind this belief is that both of the Duke of Edinburgh’s parents are from royalty, while Her Majesty’s mother, Elizabeth I, is a commoner.

“Prince Philip [has more royal blood],” Ivan Koprivica wrote on Quora. “The late Queen Mother was not a royal princess by birth, while Prince Philip’s parents were.”

Koprivica went on to offer a few details about Philip’s birth to support his answer. “His mother Princess Alice of Battenberg descended from the royal houses of Wurttemberg, the UK, and Hesse, while his father Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark descended from Graeco-Danish (King George I of the Hellenes, son of Christian IX of Denmark) and Russian royal families (his mother Queen Olga had been born Grand Duchess Olga Romanova of Russia,” he explained

Surprisingly, this answer is supported by another user responding to a different yet similar Quora thread. In the query “Is Prince Phillip more royal than the Queen?,” user Karen Beasley likewise responded in favor of the Duke of Edinburgh.

“In the sense that both his parents were born Royal, yes he is,” Beasley responded to the Quora query. “His mother was Princess Alice of Battenberg, while his father was Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark.”

However, Beasley was quick to point out that Philip being more “royal” is only as far as bloodline is concerned. “In the sense that Prince Philip is the Prince Consort and the Queen is the reigning monarch, she outranks him,” she added.

Some fans rather believe that Her Majesty has more royal blood than her husband. “The British Crown is considered the most senior of the European royal families,” Quora user Jamie Harrison wrote. “While Philip is a Prince of Denmark and Greece, Denmark are considered the more junior family and the Greeks dissolved their monarchy.”

Meanwhile, another Quora user posits that the royal couple is equally royal. “That makes Elizabeth and Philip third cousins and equally ‘royal’ as far as these things go, I suppose,” Andrew Cooper wrote.
