Meghan Markle may have been embroiled in her own family drama since becoming a royal, but she’s a winner for at least one of her in-laws. Since Prince Charles walked her down the aisle during her wedding to Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex has formed a close relationship with her father-in-law.

In fact, even though Kate Middleton is his first daughter-in-law, Prince Charles refers to Meghan as “the daughter he never had.” Here are the reasons Meghan and Prince Charles have clicked.

1. Prince Charles can relate to Meghan’s dysfunctional family

There is no truth in reports claiming that Prince Charles was getting frustrated with Meghan’s family-related struggles. In fact, her dysfunctional family has only made him love his daughter-in-law all the more. Because the royal family also has its own share of traumas and crises behind closed doors, the Duchess of Sussex’s troubled family background is something that Prince Charles totally understands. In fact, they text each other TMZ links recounting Thomas Markle’s latest antics!

2. They both love art

Prince Charles has always been an art lover, and having someone in the royal family who loves art as much as he does delights him. Since Meghan became part of the royal family, she has bonded with Prince Charles over art, history and culture. When they have time, they talk about the earlier royals and the artists who painted their portraits.

3. Prince Charles finds Meghan “incredibly smart”

Prince Charles loves the fact that his daughter-in-law is smart and was well-trained by the Hollywood machine. He thinks Meghan’s smarts let her easily cope with the difficult life of a royal.

4. Meghan gets along well with Prince Charles’ wife, Camilla

For any father, nothing beats knowing that his daughter-in-law shares a cool relationship with his wife. Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, has a soft spot for Meghan, and Prince Charles loves how the two ladies are hitting it off. Both Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla go out of their way to get to know Meghan, and they’re loving every inch of Meghan so far.

5. Prince Charles loves Meghan’s resilience

A genuine father figure to Meghan, Prince Charles admires the way his daughter-in-law has handled all of her personal issues with grace and battles everything in the public eye. He is as protective of Meghan as Prince Harry is.

6. They share the same humor

During Prince Charles’ 70th birthday celebration, Prince Charles and Meghan were spotted giggling over Prince Harry getting swarmed by a bee. They were also photographed laughing together at the balcony of Buckingham Palace during Meghan’s first Trouping the Colour ceremony.
