2021 may not have been as bad as 2020 for most people. The year was spent struggling to cope with each new variant of Covid-19. With Omicron threatening countries around the world with another wave, there are questions about how 2022 will look.

When it comes to making predictions of the future, one name that has stood out for centuries is that of Michel de Nostredame, better known as Nostradamus. The 16th-century physician and astrologer wrote a book titled Les Prophéties which contains 942 poetic quatrains that are supposed to predict the future. Some of these quatrains are interpreted each year to predict what the coming year holds. According to experts, 2022 does not promise to be a great year for the world if Nostradamus’ predictions hold true.

Nostradamus apparently predicts the death of a world leader. He wrote, “The sudden death of the first character, he will be changed and they will put another in his kingdom.” Yearly Horoscope.Org also pointed out another quatrain that hits at the assassination of a world leader. Whether due to natural causes or assassination, a world leader may breathe their last in 2022.

The death of the leader could go hand in hand with the fall of the European Union, according to Marca. “Sacred temples of the Roman time, will reject the foundations of their foundation,” wrote Nostradamus.

Devastating climate change is also predicted to start from 2022. “Like the sun, the head will seal the shining sea, the live fish of the Black Sea will almost boil,” appears to predict massive global warming. Another quatrain “For forty years the rainbow will not be seen. For 40 years it will be seen every day. The dry earth will grow more parched, and there will be great floods when it is seen.” New York Post interprets that the extreme long-drawn climate change could be a result of a nuclear catastrophe.

Another bad news for humankind could be the rise of Artificial Intelligence. “The Moon in the full of night over the high mountain, the new sage with a lone brain sees it. By his disciples invited to be immortal, eyes to the south. Hands in bosoms, bodies in the fire.” 2022 could see the rise of a Skynet-like threat.

Nostradamus appears to predict global inflation to cripple economies, “So high the price of wheat, that man is stirred, his fellow man to eat in his despair.” However, investing in Bitcoin could be the saving grace of 2022, “The copies of gold and silver inflated, which after the theft were thrown into the lake, at the discovery that all is exhausted and dissipated by the debt. All scripts and bonds will be wiped out.”

The interpretations of the famed seers’ predictions have often fallen flat. Despite a few of his extremely generalized predictions being stretched to fit global events, his predictions continue to be more for amusement. Given his plethora of world-ending predictions, 2022 may not be as bad as his quatrains prophecies it to be.
