Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego slammed Kari Lake, his opponent in last year's elections for the U.S. Senate in Arizona, after she criticized him for slamming the Trump administration over the investigation against lawmakers who called on military and intelligence officers to reject unlawful orders.
Concretely, Lake criticized Gallego after he uploaded an insult-laden video in which he criticized the investigation. "t's just disrespectful. It's an embarrassment to Arizona. It's an embarrassment to our country. his is a guy who is part of a cartel family. It's a fact. His [Gallego's] father is a convicted felon, Mexican drug cartel trafficker. That's where this guy comes. And for him to speak in those profane terms like that, while sitting in the U.S. Senate, it's disgusting," Lake said.
Kari, surviving an abusive and violent father was hard for my family. We rejected his evil ways and accomplished the American Dream. From that family we have a cancer doctor, a teacher, a businesswomen and a Senator who kicked your ass in the 2024 election. https://t.co/HDNMT7ouI1

She was making reference to the fact that Gallego's father is a convicted drug dealer. The senator has repeatedly addressed activities, noting that he abandoned the family. "It's a stain my family has had to carry. and this is why my mom, my sisters and myself have worked our entire lives to live the American dream and to serve and honor the country despite what he has done," he said last year.
Gallego again reacted, now saying on social media that "surviving an abusive and violent father was hard" for his family. "We rejected his evil ways and accomplished the American Dream. From that family we have a cancer doctor, a teacher, a businesswomen and a Senator who kicked your a-- in the 2024 election," he added.
Gallego has been reacting publicly to the investigation, recently saying "f--k you and your investigation" when responding to a publication from the Defense Department noting that his fellow Arizona Senator, Mark Kelly, could face "court-martial proceedings or administrative measures."
Gallego, a veteran of the Marines, also said in an earlier post that Kelly "has dedicated his life to serving this country with honor. And now Trump is coming after him with the same baseless garbage he throws at anyone who refuses to bend the knee."
"Mark told the truth — in America, we swear an oath to the Constitution, not wannabe kings," he added.
