Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego slammed the Trump administration over the ongoing war in Iran, saying that for him and other Latino veterans the operation feels like "deja vu."
"There are so many Latino families right now that are seeing what's happening in Iran and they're like "They're doing it again. They're going to sacrifice our kids for a war that has no plan, no ending, and we're going to end up paying more, both in terms of our blood, of our kids, of our family members, and then of our taxes," Gallego said in an interview in MS NOW.
Gallego, who served in the Iraq war, went on to say that Trump has no idea how to prosecute the war and is playing into Iran's hands.
"This president and the people around him, Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth, are basically trying to stumble onto a victory and onto an exit plan," he said. "And when that happens, unfortunately, that means men and women die. That means that we start losing our national prestige when it comes to our alliances from around the world, and it actually gives an advantage to our enemies because they basically get to call the shots."
Elsewhere, he said Trump is the first U.S. President "that is so freaking stupid that he did not accept that that's exactly what is going to happen," in reference to the closing of the Strait of Hormuz. "He is screwing this up," he added.
Gallego has been a vocal opponent of the war, recently saying he won't support authorizing an additional $200 billion for operations.
"If the Pentagon is asking for $200 billion they are asking for a long war. The answer is a simple no," he said last week.
The war continues in the meantime, with Tehran saying it rejected the U.S.'s latest proposal to end the war. The country's demands reportedly include collecting fees from ships going through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the lifting of all sanctions on the country.
The Wall Street Journal detailed that demands also includes being allowed to keep its missile program without limits and for guarantees that Israel wouldn't restart the war nor attack its largest proxy in the region, Hezbollah.
The U.S. has also outlined its demands to end the war. Trump confirmed the plan, which has 15 points. Trump confirmed the plan, saying the first point is preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. "That's number one, two and three," the president added.
