Automotive enthusiast? Art connoisseur? Heritage collector? All of the above?

Behold this rare 1992 Ferrari F40 GTE with complete racing documentation. One of only seven examples, this particular Ferrari F40 GTE is also just one of two Ferrari F40s to win an FIA Championship.

Built to F40 GT spec by Michelotto and raced under privateer team Jolly Club, the serial number 94362 F40 GTE finished sixth overall in its inaugural 1993 Italian GT Championship season. In 1994, the F40 GTE dominated the series under the skilled hands of racing driver Vittorio Colombo, clinching the FIA title.

Not your average F40, the F40 GT's 2.9-liter puts out approximately 560-hp, significantly greater than the 471-hp found in a 'standard' F40. Excess weight was removed from the GT as well, tipping the scale at just 2,310 lbs., or 115 lbs. less then the standard F40. What's more, the F40 GTE also featured enormous Brembo brakes taken from the Ferrari F40 LM endurance racer.

After the 1994 season, Michelotto converted the F40 GT to GTE spec, which allowed larger wheels, wider carbon fiber bodywork, and further carbon fiber chassis reinforcement. Even larger Brembo brakes were installed to cope with the power gain to 620-hp. Weight increased to 2420 lbs.

Unfortunately, the F40 GTE only ran four races in the 1995 BPR Global GT Series before a lack of team support and disappointing finishing results caused the Ferrari to retire from racing. Since then, the F40 has remained a garage queen.

Whether you'd like to continue preserving the Ferrari F40 or would love to drive it in anger once again, now if your opportunity.

Currently offered for sale through Ferraris Online, the serial number 94362 F40 GTE is currently sold whole with spare wheels, spare shocks, and spare wheel nuts thrown in. However, an one-of-seven Ferrari doesn't come cheap. The asking price for this fine machine is a cool 1,095,000 euros, or about $1.37 million after conversion.

Expensive? Certainly. Is it ten times the car the $300,000 Lazzarini Design Fiat 500 V8 ever will be? Absolutely.
