“The Simpsons” is one of the longest-running shows on television and is currently in its 31st season. Naturally, fans are a bit worried about the longevity of the hit satirical animated series especially with a few cancellation rumors floating around.

Cancellation rumors say that the currently-airing “The Simpsons” season 31 might be the show’s last. Thankfully, fans can relax for now as the rumors have been denied by no other than its showrunner Al Jean, according to BGR.

“We are all thankful the following article is NOT TRUE,” Al Jean clarified on Twitter. The showrunner then linked an article by The Guardian titled “Bye caramba! The Simpsons composer claims the show is 'coming to an end'” that discussed the show’s cancellation.

Fans were a bit worried since The Guardian’s report has some credibility backing it up. The publication actually based the article on the statements made by “The Simpsons” theme composer Danny Elfman.

“From what I’ve heard it will be coming to an end,” Elfman said in a podcast hosted by joe.ie. “I don’t know for a fact, but I’ve heard that it will be in its last year.”

According to the composer, there were talks that hinted that the show might be on its last year. “I don’t know for a fact, but I’ve heard that it will be in its last year,” Elfman explained.

“I’m so flabbergasted and amazed that it has lasted as long as it did … you have to realise, when I scored ‘The Simpsons,’ I wrote this crazy piece of music, and I expected no one would hear it, because I really did not think the show had a chance in hell,” the composer revealed that he was surprised that the series became such a huge hit.

However, both Elfman and Jean might actually be saying the truth. While Elfman said about the show “coming to an end,” it does not necessarily mean that it will end with the current Season 31.

As explained by Comic Book, “The Simpsons” was already renewed for two more seasons last February. This could mean that aside from its current run, the show will still be airing for one more season – Season 32 – which might be finally its final season.
