A teaser video for SteamBoy Project was posted to YouTube and gives gamers a first peek at a Portable Steam Machine. The console is developed by SteamBoy Machine Team, a third party not affiliated with Valve. The trailer shows off a device similar to a Steam controller and members of the SteamBoy team told The Escapist more details regarding the console. Check out what we learned about the portable console below along with the devices trailer.
1. The handheld will feature a quad-core CPU, 4GB of RAM, a 32GB memory card, and a 5-inch display with a 16:9 aspect ratio, along with Wi-Fi and 3G support. A SteamBoy rep told the Escapist, "SteamBoy won't be as powerful as other announced Steam Machines in the same way [the] Nintendo 3DS or PS Vita performance is not comparable to Wii U or PlayStation 4, however, it will be possible to play the majority of current games in Steam."
2. It will also connect to the Internet via WiFi and 3G, and will be able to play “the majority of current games in Steam.”
3. Expect that quad-core CPU to be of the AMD variety with Radeon graphics integrated right into the processor given the Steamboy's small size.
4. The consoles device is similar to a classic Steam Controller. It features the signature round track-pads, and Xbox 360-style A, B, X, and Y buttons. The screen is positioned between them, similar to the Wii U’s GamePad.
