Super Sized Salon Season 1 Ep. 1 WETV Super Sized Salon Season 1 Ep. 1 WETV

Jamie Lopez, the founder behind Babydoll Beauty Couture and star of WE TV’s "Super Sized Salon" has died reportedly of heart complications at the age of 37. Lopez's death was confirmed by the beauty salon’s Instagram account earlier today. The Plus-Size reality star was an inspiration for many and created a safe space for Plus-Size women, that didn’t let size get in the way of her fashion and beauty dreams.

WE TV home of her reality salon series, shared their condolences.” We are saddened to hear the news of the sudden passing of Jamie Lopez. Jamie’s passion to create a safe and welcoming environment for all women at Babydoll Beauty Couture will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends during this time.”

The Salon shared the tragic news alongside a slideshow of photos honoring Lopez. “On behalf of the Babydoll Beauty Couture team, we regretfully announce, with great pain, the passing of The Founder & Owner of Babydoll Beauty Couture, The Legendary Jamie Lopez,” read the post. “We ask, on behalf of the Babydoll family, that you allow us time to process this tremendous loss. Further details and arrangements will be announced soon.”

The post continued, “We have suffered an extraordinary loss and appreciate the time and space to grieve in peace. Please keep our Babydoll family & team lifted in your hearts and prayers. We’d like to thank the staff & crew of @matadorcontent & @wetv for all their continuous support in this difficult time. Sincerely, Team Jamie.”

An official cause of death has yet to be revealed, but according to TMZ, sources close to Lopez claimed she was hospitalized in Las Vegas and died over the weekend as a result of heart complications. The outlet also reported the reality star was preparing to film the second season of Super Sized Salon at the time of her death.

Lopez, who at one point weighed 846 lbs, opened up about her weight loss during the first season, detailing how she learned to walk again after losing 400 pounds. In a trailer for the show, Lopez revealed her original weight and that designed her salon while confined to her bed -- too heavy to get up and see the world.

After facing discrimination in the beauty industry for being plus-sized, Lopez founded the Babydoll Beauty Couture salon. The first season of Super Sized Salon premiered July 29, 2022 and followed Lopez and the staff at the inclusive salon. “There are over 80,000 beauty salons in America, but only Las Vegas-based Babydoll Beauty Couture caters specifically to the plus size community.” Lopez created the safe space after being ridiculed after breaking a chair in a regular salon. The women who work at Babydoll Beauty Couture have a mission to make sure everyone looks and feels beautiful. Although there is workplace drama and conflicting personalities, the crew still focuses on inclusivity and empowering women.

“It makes me very upset to be mistreated because of my size, and not have a place where I can get beautiful,” she told Yahoo Beauty in 2017. “When women walk away from getting services done at my salon, I want them to feel beautiful, confident, and sexy.”

The sad news broke earlier today as fans took to Twitter to honor the reality star.
