Super Smash Bros. 4 is getting some new characters that are customizable. Game director, Masahiro Sakurai revealed some new information of Miiverse-a screenshot based on a recognizable series. Pilotwings! The flight simulator game in which the player attempts to earn pilot licenses through lessons in light plane flight, hang gliding, skydiving, and the use of a rocket belt, has never before been in Super Smash Bros. The inclusion of Pilotwings as a new level hints at the possibility of playable Mii characters.

The potential for a Pilotwings stage has been previously hinted at through the posting of daily screenshots. However, the latest shot is the clearest one yet, with a clear acknowledgment to the latest version of the game, Pilotwings Resort, a launch title for Nintendo 3DS. Before this screenshot of Wuhu Island, which serves as the setting for Pilotwings Resort, Wii Fit and Wii Fit Resorts, fans could only speculate with grainy screenshots of the Super Nintendo version of the game.

So now that it is confirmed that Pilotwings will definitely be included in Super Smash Bros. 4, what does that mean in terms of characters? According to iDigitalTimes, every stage is tied to a specific character, except for stages like Battlefield and Final Destination. The only confirmed character that could possibly fit with Wuhu Island is Wii Fit Trainer, however we have already seen the level dedicated to Wii Fit Trainer and the Pilotwings accessories would not fit. Therefore, it seems most likely that one of the new Super Smash Bros. characters is from Pilotwings.

While people may be pulling for the inclusion of Hawk and Goose from Pilotwings 64, being that it is a 20-year-old game, it is unlikely they will be included. The most plausible characters to be included in Piltowings Resort will be Miis. Miis from Pilotwings Resort will be fully customizable in regards to appearance, however only partially customizable moves. With Sakurai having previously confirmed the existence of customizable characters in Super Smash Bros. 4, it certainly seems to make sense.
